He has pioneered numerous analytic solutions that have enabled businesses to thrive by entering new territories, servicing new customer bases, and offering new products. His body of work includes the FICO Expansion Score, lending decisioning engines, and credit, fraud, acquisition and digital targeting solutions.
James has established himself as an analytic thought leader at each of his professional stops, whether at industry leading companies such as FICO, PayPal, and Visa, or burgeoning start-ups such as MoneyCard and Parasail. At FICO James pioneered the use of alternative data with the FICO Expansion Score and drove innovations that are still being utilized as best practices today. At PayPal, James headed risk analytics, with a focus on both consumer and merchant payment fraud risk solutions, policies, and strategies. At MoneyCard and Parasail, James married risk-based pricing, machine learning, and big data practices to create loan origination processes and underwriting engines for the credit underserved and healthcare financing industries. At Visa, James turned his focus to a unique big data problem, mining billions of transactions to develop ecommerce fraud risk assessment protocols, high-yield targeting campaigns, and transaction behavior marketing analytics. James loves to work with people to attain business goals and to achieve success by combining innovative ideas and thoughtful execution.
James holds a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of British Columbia, an M.S. in statistics from Laval University, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Sichuan University. James is fluent in English, French, and Chinese.
